International / Friendship Bridges

  
There are several bridges around the world which cross international borders. These bridges are known as friendship bridges
Shown below is a list of some of the world’s more famous of these international / friendship bridges.

The Oresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden


Friendship Bridge - A 135 meter wide bridge linking the town of Khorough in Tajikistan with the Afghan town of Darvaz across the Panj River. 



Puente de la Amistad -  A 552 meter wide bridge linking the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguacu with the city of Ciudad del Este in Paraguay across the Rio Parana.  



Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge -  A 2.2 kilometer wide bridge which links the Bulgarian city of Ruse with the Romanian city of Giurgiu across the River Danube.  



The Narva Friendship Bridge - A 162 meter wide stone bridge which links the city of Tallin in Estonia with the city of St Petersburg in Russia across the Narva River.  


Sino-Korean Friendship BridgeA 940 meter long bridge linking the Chinese city of Dandong with the town of Siniju in North Korea across the Yalu River.   


  
The Oresund Bridge  – Incorporating both the eight kilometer long Oresund Bridge and the four kilometer long, Drogden Tunnel. This unique Scandinavian highway, pictured above, links Denmark’s capital city, Copenhagen with the Swedish city of Malmo across the stretch of water known as the Oresund Sound. The highway is part of the European E20 road.    



           
The Sino - Nepal Friendship Bridge


Sino-Nepal Friendship BridgeA fifty meter wide bridge linking the Tibetan village of Zhangdong with the Nepalese village of Kodari which spans the Bhote Koshi River at a height of nine meters. 


Fraternity BridgeA 489 meter wide bridge linking the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguacu with the Argentinian city of Puerto Iguacu, across the Iguacu River. 


Unity Bridge - A 720 meter wide bridge linking the town of Mitambaswala in Tanzania with the town of  Negomano in Mozambique across the Ruvuma River.  


Located  in the Pearl River Delta between Macau’s Cotai Island and Hengquin in Zuhai, China are two international road bridges known as the Lotus Bridge and the Posto Fronteirico das Portas do Cerco.
Of the two the Lotus Bridge, dubbed the Pearl River Necklace by locals, is the most interesting, as it has been built with three sets of carriageways enabling drivers to change lanes from the left hand driving conditions of Macau to the right hand driving conditions of China in one smooth operation


The King Fahd Causeway, is a twenty five kilometer series of bridges and causeways located in the Gulf of Bahrain linking Bahrain’s capital city, Manama, with the city of Al Khobar in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  
The border control between the two countries is located on the 660,000 square kilometer man made island known as Embankment No 4, which is also served by a variety of shops and restaurants.


There are Four Friendship Bridges linking Laos and Thailand, all of which span the Mekong River, they are -  
The Thai / Lao Friendship Bridge Numbet One – Located between Nong Khai in Thailand and Vientiane in Laos.
The Thai / Lao Friendship Bridge Number TwoLocated between Mukdahan inThailand and Savan Nakhet in Laos.  
The Thai / Lao Friendship Bridge Number Three – Located between At Samat in Thailand and Thakhek in Laos. 
The Thai Lao Friendship Bridge Number Four – Located between Wiang Chiang Khong in Thailand and Ban Houayxay in Laos.
