Countries Which Drive On The Left Side Of The Road

Three quarters of the world's countries drive on the right side of the road, despite the fact that driving on the left side of the road has been around a lot longer.
It is widely believed that Napoleon Bonaparte instigated the right side rule for driving in continental Europe in 1792, although the United Kingdom set the scene for driving on the left side of the road in 1722, in order to alleviate traffic congestion on the capital’s London Bridge.

Left hand drive (LHD) and right hand drive (RHD) however mean another thing entirely.
Countries which drive on the left side of the road will drive vehicles with a steering wheel positioned on the right, which is known as a right hand drive (RHD) vehicle, and countries which drive on the right side of the road will have vehicles with a steering wheel positioned on the left, which is known as a left hand drive (LHD) vehicle.
Therefore driving in a country which drives on the left side of the road will require driving a vehicle with right hand drive and driving in a country which drives on the right side of the road will require driving a vehicle with left hand drive.
This is done to enable drivers to safely view oncoming traffic.

Shown below is a list of the thirty seven sovereign states and six territories which drive on the left side of the road, therefore requiring a right hand drive (RHD) vehicle.
Everywhere else drives on the right side of the road and implements the use of left hand drive (LHD) vehicles.
